As many of you already know, we’ve had server issues a month ago due to high load. We solved it by upgrading the server hardware and optimizing the server. This caused a hefty 50usd increase in the cost of the server not including the cost of the donor’s section. Not to mention that we do about 20-30mbps on average which is like 6000-10000gb of bandwidth a month.
At the moment our servers expenses runs close to 275usd a month, a lump sum for an unemployed(Black Waltz) and a college student(Starfi3ld). We’ve been paying close to these amounts for more than 2 years. Yes Boontan.net is more than 2 years old. I started Boontan.net as a anime download forum in may 2006 with only 300 members. Now it has grown to a website with 2000 unique hits a day.
No longer can we afford such amounts. We’ve tried everything; advertisements, Sponsorship, donations, etc. The only thing left is to turn this website into premium accounts. I know that no one wants to see this happen so we’re gonna try and collect donations again
If I have to pay more than 70usd a month for the server more than 3 months in a row, I will start offering premium services.
In conclusion if I start offering premium accounts etc I will scrap the free downloads section and maybe offer 1 anime for free.
